Coverage & basic pay rules (frequency, method & payslips)
- National vs state systems: Most employers/employees are covered by the Fair Work Act. Some public sector and other cohorts may be under state systems.
- Pay frequency: At least monthly (check any stricter instrument requirement).
- Payment method: Must be in money (commonly cash or EFT) and paid in full.
Payslips — mandatory details
Employers must provide a payslip within 1 working day of pay day (even if you’re on leave), showing:
- Your name and the employer’s name;
- Employer’s ABN;
- Pay period and date of payment;
- Gross and net pay;
- Rate of pay;
- Any loadings, allowances, bonuses, incentives, penalty rates, overtime or other paid entitlements;
- Any deductions taken from pay;
- Superannuation contributions for the period, and the fund name and number the contribution was made to.
