Your rights, privacy & logistics
- Consent & confidentiality: You will usually be asked to consent to an examination and the release of a report to the employer. The information is confidential within your organisation but will be seen by decision‑makers. The IME doctor is not your treating doctor and is assessing for the employer.
- Information from your treating doctor: Only authorise release of information that is directly relevant to fitness for work; avoid blanket releases.
- Costs: The employer pays for the IME.
- Support person: You may bring a support person to appropriate parts of the process (check local policy/instructions).
