Workplace Restructuring, Change and Consultation

Your steps: meetings, feedback & union support

  1. Gather information: Keep a diary of events; save letters, emails and notices. Ask for details of proposed changes in writing.
  2. Attend meetings: Consultation meetings are an opportunity to hear the proposal and provide feedback. For any one‑on‑one meeting you are usually entitled to bring a support person. (The WAS team does not usually attend workplace‑level meetings.)
  3. Provide feedback in writing: Address the rationale and set out alternatives that meet the stated objectives (attach evidence where possible).
  4. Union assistance: Professionals Australia can identify consultation obligations, review your draft response, and advise on individual circumstances. The employer may have positive obligations to consult with the union.
