Discrimination

What to do if you’re being discriminated against

  1. Keep a diary: Record dates, times, what happened, who was involved/who witnessed. Make entries promptly.
  2. Be informed: Read employer policies, your contract and any EA/award. Review guidance from the Australian Human Rights Commission and relevant state/territory commission.
  3. Address early: Raise concerns with your manager/HR. Discuss reasonable adjustments where appropriate.
  4. Seek advice and consider pathways: Many bodies can assist (AHRC, state/territory commissions, Fair Work Commission for general protections). Time limits can be short — act quickly.
  5. Contact Professionals Australia: We can advise, correspond with your employer, and discuss legal options.
