Hierarchy of controls — examples
- Eliminate hazards and associated risks where reasonably practicable.
- Reduce risk by combining controls, such as:
- Altering the system of work (workload, staffing, rostering, task design)
- Altering the workplace layout
- Altering the workplace environment (noise, temperature, space)
- Changing the objects/tools used
- Administrative controls — Policies, procedures, training, supervision, reporting and support pathways.
- Review controls regularly to ensure effectiveness.
