Psychosocial hazards

What you can do if you encounter a psychosocial hazard

Identify hazards

  • Talk with colleagues, supervisors and your Health and Safety Representative (HSR).
  • No HSR? Consider initiating an election for one.

Collect evidence

  • Document incidents, effects and relevant communications (emails, screenshots, rosters).

Assess the risks

  • Consider the nature and severity of potential harm and the likelihood of it occurring.

Control the risks

  • Apply the hierarchy of controls (see Section 5) and implement the most effective measures that are reasonably practicable.

Continue to review

  • Check that controls are working as planned and adjust as needed.

Report to a regulator

If unresolved, you can raise a complaint with your state/territory WHS/OHS regulator:

  • SafeWork NSW
  • WorkSafe Victoria
  • WorkSafe QLD
  • SafeWork SA
  • WorkSafe WA
  • NT WorkSafe
  • WorkSafe ACT
  • WorkSafe Tasmania
