Risks, pitfalls & pre‑signing checklist
- Confirm you’re not releasing valuable unpaid entitlements (wages, leave, bonuses, super).
- Check the release width (does it capture unknown/future claims?) and that appropriate carve‑outs are included.
- Verify payment timing, method and tax treatment; clarify any clawback or set‑off.
- Ensure any restraints are waived or reasonable, and that confidentiality/non‑disparagement are mutual with sensible carve‑outs (union, legal/medical advice, family, regulators).
- Confirm references/statement of service wording and who can give it.
