What a deed does & when it’s used

  • Purpose: Resolve claims or potential claims (e.g., disputes about dismissal, underpayments, workplace conflict) and record agreed outcomes (payments, references, terms of separation).
  • Timing: Used when parties negotiate an exit (“mutual separation”) or settle a dispute/tribunal matter (e.g., during FWC conciliation).
  • Finality: Usually prevents the employee from bringing further proceedings about the subject matter (sometimes broader). Ensure you’re satisfied nothing further is owed.
