Frequently asked questions
- My employer isn’t paying my super — what do I do? Check payslips and your myGov account linked to your fund. If payments are missing, contact Professionals Australia to raise the issue, and notify the ATO who can investigate and recover unpaid amounts with interest and penalties.
- Is super included in my salary package? Sometimes. On “total remuneration” packages, super may be included — your take‑home can be adjusted to meet the SG. Check your contract.
- Do I get super while on leave? Yes for paid leave (annual, personal, long service). Generally no for unpaid leave unless your instrument/contract says otherwise.
- Do casuals get super? Yes — on the same basis as other employees, subject to the under‑18 rule noted above.
- Is super paid on bonuses, overtime or allowances? Super is paid on OTE. Typically no for overtime payments; yes for certain allowances/commissions relating to ordinary hours (check ATO guidance and any award/EA).
- Can I make extra contributions? Yes — via salary sacrifice (before tax) and non‑concessional (after tax). Be mindful of caps and tax; consider financial advice.
General information, not legal advice. Super entitlements depend on the SG laws, your award/EA/contract, and your circumstances.
